Proper maintenance of your home or business’s heating and cooling system requires regularly replacing the filters. What’s better: pleated or fiberglass filters? At FilterBuy, we manufacture pleated air filters, which are designed to last 90 days and capture over 85% of air particles in your space. Fiberglass filters, made of spun glass, last an average of 30 days and capture a much smaller percentage of air particles.

What size do I need? The most important thing to dowhen choosing your HVAC filter is to know the exact size you need. Take a look at the size on the filter in your unit. If there’s no size printed, use a tape measure to find the exact length, width, and depth. Round up the measurements to find the nominal size you need.

What’s the difference between nominal size and actual size? When searching for a 16x25x1 filter, for example, you’ll likely see 15.5" x 24.5” x .75” listed. Nearly all filters go by the nominal size, which is the actual size rounded up to the nearest inch.

How long do filters last? Our 1”, 2”, and 4” air filters are designed to last approximately 3 months, while our whole house replacement filters should be replaced every 6 months. If you have pets, kids, or allergy sufferers in your space, we recommend changing your filters more often. It’s important to replace your filters regularly, as the older an air filter is, the less bacteria and dirt it’s removing from the air, leading to poorer indoor air quality and higher energy costs.

What ratings do you carry? We carry MERV ratings of 6, 8, 11, and 13, which trap and block from 85% up to 98% of particles in the air. We recommend MERV 6 and 8 for standard homes and businesses. MERV 11 and 13 filters offer elevated performance and increased filtration. For You can browse air filteres by each rating: MERV 6, MERV 8, MERV 11, and MERV 13.
