Medify Air Purifier Filters: A Homeowner's Guide
October 9, 2026

Medify Air filters are built for specific Medify Air purifier models, and many are 3-in-1 cartridges that pair True HEPA H13 media with a pre-filter and activated carbon. Medify rates most of these filters for 2,000 to 3,000 hours of run time, which most households reach in four to six months. The right replacement is always the one that matches your purifier's model number. Filterbuy, a family-owned filter manufacturer, pulled Medify's model-by-model guidance together here.
TL;DR
Medify Air purifier filters aren't universal, so start with your model number. Plan on a new filter every 2,000 to 3,000 hours of use, and reset the indicator light after each swap. HEPA and carbon layers should never be washed.
Key Takeaways
Your purifier's model number decides which Medify Air filter you need.
Many Medify filters are 3-in-1 cartridges built around a True HEPA H13 layer, and Medify lists H14 versions for the MA-40, MA-50, MA-112, and MA-112 PRO.
A Medify purifier that runs nonstop logs 8,760 hours a year, enough to use up about three 3,000-hour filters or four to five 2,000-hour filters.
What Types Of Filters Do Medify Air Purifiers Use?
Most Medify cartridges stack the three standard air purifier filter layers: a pre-filter, a True HEPA H13 or H14 layer, and activated carbon.
Pre-Filter
The pre-filter is the first layer air hits in a Medify filter. It catches pet hair and larger dust before it can reach and clog the finer HEPA media.
True HEPA H13 And H14
HEPA stands for high-efficiency particulate air. Under the EPA's definition of a HEPA filter, this pleated filter type can theoretically remove at least 99.97% of airborne particles 0.3 microns in size, including dust and pollen.
The H13 and H14 labels on Medify filters come from EN 1822, a European standard for high-efficiency filters. An H13 filter is rated to capture at least 99.95% of particles at the size that is hardest to catch, while an H14 filter is rated for at least 99.995%. Our guide to HEPA air filter replacement types compares these grades across brands.
Activated Carbon
Activated carbon is porous, treated charcoal that traps odor molecules and some gases, including many volatile organic compounds (VOCs). Filterbuy works with carbon in its pre-filter line, and carbon fills up without changing color, so your nose is the best way to tell when it is spent. Our carbon vs. HEPA comparison explains why the two layers wear out on different schedules.

Which Medify Air Filter Do I Need?
The Medify Air filter you need is the one Medify lists for your exact purifier model. At Filterbuy, we guarantee the fit of every HVAC filter we sell, because a filter that doesn't seal lets air slip around the media.
Find the model number on your purifier's label or in the owner's manual. Every Medify model number starts with MA.
Check the full model name. The MA-112 and MA-112 PRO, for example, take different filter sets.
Pick your HEPA grade. H13 is the standard option, and H14 is an upgrade wherever Medify sells it for your model.
Fit comes first, then timing. A True HEPA filter that doesn't seal lets air bypass the media, and one left in past its hours moves less clean air. That holds for the HVAC filters we make and for a Medify cartridge.
How Long Do Medify Air Filters Last?
Medify Air filters last about 2,000 to 3,000 hours of run time, depending on the model. Medify says most people replace them every four to six months, or sooner in high-pollution or high-use homes. Filterbuy designs its HVAC filters around a 90-day cycle because a furnace cycles on and off. A purifier often runs around the clock, so run hours decide how long HEPA air purifier filters last.

How Daily Run Time Changes Your Replacement Schedule
Filterbuy built the table below from Medify's published hour ratings. See our guide on how long to run an air purifier in your bedroom for run-time help.
Estimates divide each filter timer by daily run hours, using a 30-day month.
How many filters to buy: A purifier that never shuts off logs 8,760 hours a year. That is about 4.4 filters a year on a 2,000-hour timer, 3.5 on a 2,500-hour timer, and 2.9 on a 3,000-hour timer.

When Should You Replace A Medify Air Filter?
Replace a Medify Air filter when the replacement indicator turns on, or sooner if the filter shows wear first. The two clearest early signs of a clogged air purifier filter are a dark gray intake and odors that come back quickly.
The intake face looks gray or black, a sign the media is loaded.
Odors linger. Quick-returning smells point to spent carbon, one common reason why an air purifier smells.
Your home had a dust or smoke event. Renovation dust and wildfire smoke load a filter early, so check it sooner when running an air purifier during wildfire season.
Filterbuy Pro Tip: Before you toss an old Medify filter, hold its intake side next to the new one. If it turned dark gray long before the timer ran out, plan your next change earlier.
How To Change A Medify Air Filter
A Medify Air filter change takes a few minutes and no tools.
Turn the purifier off and unplug it.
Open the filter cover, following your manual for its location.
Lift out the old filter and bag it so the dust it holds stays put.
Remove all the plastic wrap from the new filter, since a purifier can't pull air through packaging.
Seat the filter with any arrows or pull tabs facing the direction your manual shows, then close the cover. Filterbuy's air purifier filter direction guide explains the arrows.
Plug the unit back in and reset the filter indicator using the table above.
How To Clean And Maintain A Medify Air Filter
Medify Air filters aren't washable. Medify allows a light vacuum on the white side of MA-25 and MA-50 filters with a brush attachment. For the MA-35 and MA-40, Medify says not to vacuum because it can clog the filter.
Between changes, wipe the purifier's inlet and outlet with a dry cloth and keep curtains clear of the intake. You'll find more upkeep routines in our air filter maintenance guides.
How A Medify Purifier Works With Your HVAC Filter
A Medify Air purifier cleans the air in one room, while your HVAC filter cleans the air moving through your whole system whenever it runs. As our air filters vs. air purifiers comparison explains, purifier filters are graded as HEPA, and HVAC filters use ASHRAE's MERV rating scale. MERV 13 is not equivalent to True HEPA.
Size a purifier to its room using its Clean Air Delivery Rate, or CADR. AHAM's CADR sizing guidance recommends a CADR equal to at least two-thirds of the room's area in square feet. A 12-by-15-foot bedroom covers 180 square feet, so it needs a CADR of at least 120. For wildfire smoke, AHAM suggests matching Smoke CADR to the room's full square footage.
During wildfire smoke, the EPA recommends a high-efficiency HVAC filter, such as a MERV 13, or as high a rating as your system fan and filter slot can accommodate.
Filterbuy's smoke rule: When the Air Quality Index (AQI) is over 100, switch to our MERV 13 air filters if you have an HVAC system, and run HEPA air purifiers in each room. Check your HVAC manual first to confirm MERV 13 compatibility. See what to do when the AQI is above 100.

Frequently Asked Questions
How Often Should I Change My Medify Air Filter?
Change your Medify Air filter when the indicator light comes on, after 2,000 to 3,000 hours of use. For most homes, that works out to every four to six months.
Why Is My Medify Filter Light Still On After A Change?
The Medify filter light stays on until you reset it. Hold your model's reset button or button pair for three to five seconds, as the model table shows. If the light still won't clear, our air purifier troubleshooting steps can help.
Is A Medify H14 Filter Better Than H13?
On paper, yes. An H14 filter carries a tighter EN 1822 capture rating than H13, although both are True HEPA grades.
Can I Use A Compatible Filter Instead Of A Genuine Medify Filter?
Compatible filters are sold for many Medify models. Before you buy one, make sure the listing names your exact model and states its HEPA grade. Then check how that grade was tested.
