Your Clorox air purifier is only as good as the filter inside it. Filterbuy has made pleated air filters in U.S. plants for over a decade, so we approached this the way a filter maker would: fit first, then media. We started with Clorox's filter instructions and checked each model against Hamilton Beach's listings. Then we compared genuine and compatible filters.

TL;DR

Each Clorox air purifier takes one matching filter. The Tabletop (11020/11021) uses 12020, the Medium Room (11030/11031) uses 12030, the Large Room (11010/11011) uses 12010, and the Ultra (11060) uses 12060. Every filter lasts 6 to 12 months and can't be washed. Filterbuy doesn't make a Clorox-compatible cartridge yet, so this guide points you to the genuine part and to whole-home help.

Key Takeaways

  • Match by model number. Purifier 11030 takes filter 12030, and so on.

  • Plan on 6 to 12 months. Homes with pets or allergies should aim shorter.

  • Treat the filter light as a timer. It counts run hours, not dirt.

  • Keep filters dry. Moisture damages True HEPA media, so replace rather than wash.

  • AQI over 100? Use both. Switch to an EPA-recommended MERV 13 HVAC filter and run HEPA purifiers in each room.

Which replacement filter fits my Clorox air purifier?

Your purifier's five-digit model number decides which filter it takes. Clorox purifier numbers begin with "110" and filter numbers begin with "120." The last two digits match, so the 11030 purifier takes the 12030 filter.

To find the model number:

  1. Unplug the purifier and set it upside down on a towel.

  2. Find the rating label on the base and read the number next to "Model."

  3. If the label has worn off, check the box or your order history.

Hamilton Beach Brands makes Clorox purifiers under license, so its name appears on manuals and warranties (Clorox True HEPA Replacement Filter instructions).

Filterbuy Pro Tip: Snap a photo of the label the first time you flip the purifier over, and your next reorder will take 30 seconds.

Clorox air purifier filter compatibility chart

This guide covers the four main Clorox purifier families, and each uses a single filter. The standard and Smart (Wi-Fi) versions of each size share that filter.

Clorox purifier Model numbers Replacement filter Filter stages Coverage on box (sq ft)
Tabletop 11020, 11021 (Smart) 12020 Pre-filter + True HEPA Up to 200
Medium Room 11030, 11031 (Smart) 12030 Pre-filter + True HEPA + activated carbon Up to 1,000
Large Room 11010, 11011 (Smart) 12010 Pre-filter + True HEPA + activated carbon 320 / up to 1,500
Ultra (UV-C) 11060 12060 Pre-filter + True HEPA + activated carbon Up to 2,200

Standard and Smart (Wi-Fi) versions of the same size share one filter. Every Clorox filter is rated for 6–12 months of use.

Where to buy genuine Clorox filters: Hamilton Beach Brands sells all four genuine filters as size options on one Walmart.com listing for Clorox replacement filters.

Why does my Clorox box list two room sizes?

The Large Room purifier is sold as a 320 sq ft model, yet its filter is listed for up to 1,500 sq ft. The smaller figure is the room it can clean several times an hour.

The Clorox Ultra explains the larger figure. It lists a clean air delivery rate (CADR) of 350 cubic feet per minute. The EPA's sizing chart pairs 65 cfm with each 100 sq ft, so 350 cfm suits roughly 540 sq ft (EPA Guide to Air Cleaners in the Home). Across 2,200 sq ft with an 8-foot ceiling, it changes the air about once an hour.

Filterbuy's takeaway: size by the smaller number. A clogged filter shrinks it further.

What's inside a Clorox replacement filter?

Every Clorox replacement filter is a round, 360° cartridge with up to three layers. Air enters from all sides and passes through a pre-filter first, then a pleated True HEPA layer. Medium Room, Large Room, and Ultra filters finish with an activated carbon layer, so any replacement needs to match the original layer for layer.

Pre-filter. The outer mesh traps hair and large dust before it can reach the HEPA layer.

True HEPA. This pleated media handles fine particles. By the standard the EPA cites, a HEPA filter removes at least 99.97% of particles 0.3 microns in diameter, the hardest size to catch (EPA: What is a HEPA filter?). Terms like "HEPA-type" don't carry that guarantee, and Filterbuy's guide to HEPA replacement filter types explains why.

Activated carbon. Porous charcoal adsorbs odors and some volatile organic compounds (VOCs) that HEPA media can't trap. In homes with pets or heavy cooking, carbon usually wears out before HEPA does, as our carbon vs. HEPA comparison explains.

How often should you replace a Clorox air purifier filter?

Clorox rates its filters for 6 to 12 months. On the Large Room model, the red filter light comes on after 4,380 hours of run time. That makes the light a timer, not a sensor. A purifier running nonstop reaches 4,380 hours in six months. At 12 hours a day, it takes a full year, and it never registers smoke or pet hair.

Your home Suggested replacement Why
Pets, a smoker, wildfire smoke, or someone with allergies or asthma About every 6 months Dander, smoke, and fine particles load HEPA and carbon layers faster
Purifier runs 24/7 in a busy room About every 6 months Nonstop use hits the 4,380-hour filter light in six months
Light use, no pets, low-dust home Up to 12 months Matches the top of Clorox's rated range

What a year of genuine Clorox filters costs

Because the light counts hours, run time decides the yearly cost. Filterbuy priced the genuine filters:

Genuine filter Price (Nov 7, 2026) Runs 24/7: cost per year Runs 12 h/day: cost per year
Tabletop 12020 $19.98 $39.96 (2 filters) $19.98 (1 filter)
Medium Room 12030 $37.88 $75.76 (2 filters) $37.88 (1 filter)
Large Room 12010 $62.95 $125.90 (2 filters) $62.95 (1 filter)

Prices from the Hamilton Beach-sold Walmart.com listing on November 7, 2026; the Ultra 12060 price was not listed that day. Filter counts assume one change each time the 4,380-hour light comes on.

At 8 hours a day, the light waits 18 months, so replace at 12 months, Clorox's maximum.

You don't have to wait for the light, either. Replace the filter when you notice:

  • The white HEPA pleats have turned gray or dark brown.

  • Odors linger, a sign the carbon is saturated.

  • Airflow from the top vent feels weaker on the same fan setting.

  • Auto mode kicks up to high more often.

Filterbuy's list of 10 signs it's time to replace your air purifier filter covers more.

How to replace the filter in a Clorox air purifier

Changing a Clorox filter takes a couple of minutes and no tools. Every model, including the Ultra, loads the filter from the base, and the steps below follow Clorox's official True HEPA replacement filter instructions.

  1. Turn off and unplug the purifier, then remove the power adapter.

  2. Turn it upside down on a towel to catch loose dust.

  3. Release the filter: turn the handle left, or slide the cover latch toward the center and tilt it up.

  4. Lift the old filter straight up and drop it into a trash bag.

  5. Take all the plastic off the new filter.

  6. Slide the new filter in straight down, holding it by the handle.

  7. Lock it in by turning the handle right, or reseat the cover tabs and latch.

  8. Plug it back in, then hold the Fan or Light button until it beeps and the filter light turns off.

Filterbuy Pro Tip: While the filter is out, vacuum the intake grille so dust there doesn't choke airflow.

Buying a spare? Clorox and Filterbuy agree on two storage basics:

  • Leave it sealed until install day; unwrapped carbon starts adsorbing room odors.

  • Store it somewhere dry, since moisture can damage True HEPA media.

Are compatible Clorox filters as good? What we found

A compatible filter can match the original only if its size and layers match and it states a real capture rating. Filterbuy reviewed genuine and compatible Clorox filter listings in November 2026 and found three patterns:

  1. Micron claims don't line up. Genuine Clorox filters are rated 99.97% at 0.1 microns, while several compatible listings quote 0.3 microns, the HEPA benchmark. Compare both numbers.

  2. Sizes drift. Retailer specs put the genuine 12030 at 8.5 x 7.91 inches. One compatible listing gave 7.81 x 8.5 inches, and another listed 3.33 x 3.33 x 3.84 inches, far too small for a full 12030.

  3. Schedules disagree. Clorox says 6 to 12 months, but one compatible 12030 listing recommends 6 to 8. If you switch, go with the shorter interval.

Before you buy, run the listing through Filterbuy's five-check framework for compatible purifier filters. Federal law generally bars tying a warranty to brand-name parts, though makers can deny claims for damage those parts cause (FTC Businessperson's Guide to Federal Warranty Law).

Where Filterbuy fits: whole-home protection

Filterbuy doesn't make a Clorox-compatible filter yet, because we only list a purifier replacement once we can build it to fit. Our current air purifier replacement filters show which purifiers we cover.

Your Clorox purifier cleans the room it sits in, while an HVAC filter cleans the whole house whenever the system runs, as our guide to air filters vs. air purifiers explains.

When the AQI climbs above 100 on Filterbuy's live USA AQI map, Filterbuy recommends two steps:

  1. If you have an HVAC system, switch to an EPA-recommended MERV 13 air filter. We make every one in our U.S. plants and ship it free.

  2. Run HEPA air purifiers, like your Clorox, in each room.

Homes without ductwork can skip step 1.

Supporting statistics: what the research says

Government research backs up what Filterbuy found:

  1. HEPA purifiers work in real homes

  1. Most of your exposure happens indoors

  1. Wildfire smoke gets inside

  • During smoke events, indoor PM2.5 runs 55% to 60% of outdoor levels.

  • That's with windows closed and no air cleaner on.

  • A purifier with a clean filter helps close the gap.

Clorox air purifier filter FAQs

Why won't the filter light turn off after a change?

The light resets only when you tell it to. Hold the Fan or Light button until the purifier beeps and the light goes dark.

Can I wash or vacuum a Clorox HEPA filter?

No. Clorox warns that moisture can damage the True HEPA filter, and vacuuming can tear the fibers. Replace the cartridge instead.

Why does my Clorox purifier still smell after a filter change?

Usually the plastic wrap is still on, the filter isn't locked in place, or the odor is more than one carbon layer can handle. Filterbuy explains why an air purifier filter smells.

Will a Clorox air purifier filter help with wildfire smoke?

Yes. True HEPA media captures fine smoke particles, and the carbon layer helps with the smell. Once the AQI tops 100, run HEPA purifiers in each room and switch the HVAC to a MERV 13 filter. Check the AQI near you and read how to protect yourself from wildfire smoke.

Does a Clorox air purifier filter replace my HVAC filter?

No. A purifier cleans one room, while your HVAC filter protects the system and cleans air throughout the home. Filterbuy compares the two in air purifier vs. HVAC filter for outdoor pollution.
