A 16x32x2 MERV 8 air filter is a pleated, two-inch-deep replacement filter for a residential or commercial furnace, air conditioner, heat pump, or central HVAC system. MERV stands for Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value, which is simply the scale that tells you how much airborne particulate a filter catches. The higher the number, the more it catches.
MERV 8 captures 90% of airborne particles. It's the rating most homes run, and it's the Standard tier in our lineup, built for healthy families. Here's the easiest check there is: hold the filter up to a light. If light doesn't pass through the pleats, swap it. The most common problem we see isn't the wrong size or the wrong rating. It's a filter that's been in since spring. Our guide to replacement intervals goes deeper.
