A 16x30x2 MERV 8 air filter is a two-inch pleated furnace and air conditioner filter. Filterbuy cuts it to an actual size of 15.69 x 29.69 x 1.75 inches, and MERV 8 captures 90% of airborne particles. It's the standard choice for most homes, and most homes replace it every 90 days. That makes a 4 pack a one-year supply.
16x30x2 is the ordering name. Filterbuy cuts the filter itself to 15.69 x 29.69 x 1.75 inches, and that small clearance is what lets it slide into the slot.
MERV 8 captures 90% of airborne particles and is comparable to MPR 600 and FPR 5.
A nominal 2 inch filter is 1.75 inches deep, so two stacked 1 inch filters aren't a substitute for one.

A 16x30x2 MERV 8 air filter is a pleated air filter for a slot that takes a nominal 16 by 30 by 2 inch filter. MERV stands for Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value, the industry scale that says how much a filter catches, and MERV 8 captures 90% of airborne particles. Filterbuy cuts, pleats, and frames this size to order in our own US plants, and it's rated for 90 days in a furnace, air conditioner, or heat pump.
Pleats are why this filter lasts longer than a flat panel. Folding the media packs more surface into the same opening. That's also why 2 inch air filters usually run 90 days while 1 inch fiberglass panels get changed monthly.
Filterbuy cuts this filter at 10 pleats per foot. Our 1 inch filters carry 14 and our 4 inch carry 8, so pleat density drops as depth goes up. That reads backwards until you picture the fold. A deeper slot lets each pleat run deeper, so fewer folds hold more media than a tight accordion crammed into an inch. Shop on the depth your slot takes, then pick a rating. Nominal is the ordering name and the actual cut is deliberately smaller. That clearance is what makes the filter fit rather than bind.

That's about 1.9 percent more media, and roughly a fifth of an inch less room on each side of the rack. A snug filter matters, because CDC guidance tells building operators to check filter racks for fit so air can't slip around the media instead of passing through it.
