Overview

It is easy to lose count with the number of vacuum cleaners in the market, but much smaller in number are those models that can be considered quiet. Vacuuming is one of the loudest chores in the household, and that noise level can take a toll. For that reason, we at HowtoHome made it our mission to locate the best quiet vacuums in the market.

These vacuums are all lauded for being quiet, but we carried our analysis a step further by also considering their suction and overall usability to determine which quiet vacuum cleaners are really worth the money. Below is an overview chart of what we found:

Details

When making a purchase, always keep in mind that the right quiet vacuum cleaner for your household will depend on your specific needs. If you have pets or children, for example, your needs may be different than if you live alone. Some of the quietest vacuum cleaners in the market are lightweight and battery operated, but they may not provide the level of suction you need for deep cleaning. For more information, scroll down to our buyer’s guide below. We’ve tested numerous models and researched customer satisfaction to develop our list of best silent vacuums.

Robotic | Battery 120 mins | Bagless | High Eff. | 7 lbs | 67-70 dB

A very quiet vacuum. One of the highest-selling Robot vacuums in the market, the EcoVacs vacuum stands out from the crowd due to its use of Alexa Voice Commands, its self-charging capabilities, and its high cleaning efficiency.

Pros

  • Automatic charging
  • Ability to schedule

Cons

  • Trash box fills up quickly
  • Difficult to clean

Features

  • Alexa Connectivity
  • Regular & Power-max mode
  • Remote Control & App

The EcoVacs Deebot Vacuum Cleaner is ideal if your busy schedule tends to delay vacuuming. It connects to your phone, so you don’t even have to be home to start vacuuming your house. Moreover, once it is installed, you won’t have to worry about bending over to vacuum, so it’s perfect for anyone suffering from back problems. It’s also the quietest vacuum cleaner in our list, with its decibel level falling below the noise level of an average conversation.

Like any Robot vacuum, though, it has its limitations. It doesn’t have a camera to see where it’s going, so it’s possible for it to miss spots in your house. While its anti-collision sensors are great for ensuring it doesn’t run into your furniture, it may also prevent it from getting properly into the corners of your room.

Canister | Plug-in 21ft | Bagless | HEPA | 10.9 lbs | 65 dB

The Electrolux SilentPerformer boasts strong suction power with minimal noise and disruption.

Pros

  • Long handle
  • Good suction
  • Automatic cord winder

Cons

  • Cord is short
  • Power brush is loud

Features

  • 3-in-1 Crevice Tool
  • Easy-Empty

The Electrolux SilentPerformer is a canister vacuum. It has a long handle, which is perfect for the tallest cleaners in your household, and boasts a very powerful suction. At 10.9 pounds, it’s the heaviest of the quiet vacuum cleaners we reviewed, but note that this being a canister vacuum, the weight will not affect you as much when vacuuming, but mostly when you carry it around. If you’re looking for a strong, hearty vacuum, the Electrolux Silent Performer will get the job done. Its 65 dB of sound make it a very quiet vacuum, but note that the power brush can get pretty loud.

Upright | Plug-in 30ft | Bagless | HEPA | 16.75 lbs | 84.1 dB

Futuristic quiet vacuum. Its swivel steering makes it easy to maneuver, and its many tools make it easy to get exactly the clean you’re looking for.

Pros

  • Has an indicator for when the roller gets stuck
  • Swivel Steering
  • Great for pet fur
  • Long cord

Cons

  • Can’t get under furniture
  • Can’t vacuum up large items
  • Balancing Issues
  • No extension tube for attachments

Features

  • Upholstery Tool
  • Soft Dusting Brush
  • Pet Turbo Brush
  • 16-inch Crevice Tool

The Eureka FloorRover is easy to maneuver and is great if you have any wrist issues. It is also built with pet care in mind: between its pet turbo brush and extremely strong suction, you’re sure to have a clean, fur-free carpet when you’re done with the Eureka FloorRover. It loses points, though, based on its bulky design and lack of extension tube for its attachments, which makes it impossible to use this vacuum to get beneath surfaces. Additionally, its low-hanging front shield prevents pickup of larger objects like popcorn.

Upright | Plug-in 30ft | Bagless | HEPA | 15.5 lbs | 80 dB

Top vacuum brand in the market. The Lift-Away Upright vacuum brings Shark vacuums to a whole new level. The cleaning trap allows small items that get sucked up into the vacuum to be separated out so that you can reclaim them, perfect for a family with kids who are always dropping things.

Pros

  • Very powerful suction
  • Trap for small items
  • Lift away feature and cleaning wand allow you to get to small spaces

Cons

  • Short hose

Features

  • Trap for small items
  • Swivel Steering
  • 5-year limited warranty

The Shark Rotator Professional Lift-Away Upright Vacuum is the perfect vacuum for households with kids. Its ability to separate out items too large to go in its bag will be a welcome relief to parents who are constantly vacuuming up Legos and doll accessories they didn’t realize their kids had left out. Unfortunately, the hose length makes it hard to reach home crevices, however the cleaning wand almost makes up for this deficit.

Buyers Guide

Quiet vacuum cleaners can take the stress out of vacuuming your house, there are a few points to keep in mind as you consider investing in one:

How quiet are we talking?

There is no such thing as a silent vacuum cleaner. A typical vacuum cleaner separates dust using centrifugal force. This powerful air flow is the sound you hear when running a vacuum. Manufacturers can create quiet vacuum cleaners by changing the design of their vacuums and lowering the amperage of their motors. These manipulations can help to contain this noise, but it’s not possible to silence it completely.

How is the sound of vacuums rated?

Most vacuum cleaners have their sound rated in decibels (dB). The sound of a regular vacuum cleaner is usually around 80dB. Accordingly, we defined a “quiet” vacuum as those outputting 70 decibels or below, which is about the same volume as a normal conversation.
